1936 wird Megert in Bern geboren. Von 1952 bis 56 besucht er die Kunstgewerbeschule in Bern. 1956 entstehen weiß in weiß gemalte Bilder, er hat seine erste Ausstellung in Bern. 1957 bis 60 folgen Aufenthalte in Berlin, Stockholm und Paris, in dieser Zeit erstmals Verwendung von Spiegeln. Ab 1960 gehört er zum inneren Kreis der internationalen ZERO-Bewegung (zusammen mit Mack, Piene, Uecker, Fontana, Klein, Manzoni, Tinguely) und nimmt an zahlreichen frühen ZERO-Events teil. 1962 ist er in der Ausstellung Nul im Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam vertreten, 1968 nimmt er an der documenta IV in Kassel teil. 1976 bis 2002 hat Megert eine Professur an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Megert-Arbeiten aus der Sammlung Lenz werden 2010 bei Sotheby’s in London versteigert. 2014-15 nimmt er an den großen ZERO-Ausstellungen im Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, dem Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin und dem Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam teil.

 

Born in 1936 in Bern, Switzerland, Megert attended the School of Art and Design in Bern from 1952–1956. In 1956 he began painting pictures white on white and had his first exhibition in Bern. He lived in Berlin, Stockholm, and Paris from 1957–1960, during which began to use mirrors for the first time. In 1960, he became part of the inner circle of the international ZERO movement (with Mack, Piene, Uecker, Fontana, Klein, Manzoni, Tinguely) and took part in many ZERO events. In 1962 his work was shown in the Nul exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He took part in documenta IV in Kassel in 1968. He was a professor at the Art Academy Düsseldorf from 1976–2002. His works in the Lenz Collection were auctioned off at Sotheby’s in London in 2010. He took part at the ZERO-exhibitions at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin und the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
