1967 wird Boris Petrovsky in Konstanz geboren. 1989 bis 1996 studiert er Freie Kunst und Produktdesign an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg. Im Zentrum seines Schaffens steht die Frage nach dem Sinn von Kommunikation und der Bedeutung von Botschaften in einer Welt der permanenten Reizüberflutung. Mit der 2005 im Kunstverein Konstanz gezeigten Arbeit Urbanes Unterholz entsteht eine erste raumfüllende Installation aus gebrauchten Neonbuchstaben und Leuchtstoffröhren. 2007 beginnt Petrovsky die Serie der Cluster-Arbeiten und ist erstmals in Galerieausstellungen und auf Messen vertreten. 2012 erregt die computergesteuerte, aus 520 Winkekatzen bestehende Installation The Global Pursuit of Happiness or: The Army of Luck auf der art Karlsruhe großes Aufsehen, 2013 präsentiert das ZKM in Karlsruhe seine 20 x 6 m große interaktive Wünschelmatrix. 2014 erhält er den Prix Ars Electonica in Linz und ist für den International Light Art Award nominiert. Petrovsky lebt und arbeitet in Konstanz.

 

Boris Petrovsky was born in 1967 in Constance. He studied studio art and product design at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg from 1989 to 1996. His work focuses on the meaning of communication and significance of messages in a world where the senses are perpetually stimulated. In 2005, he made his first room-filling installation called Urbanes Unterholz, which consists of used neon letters and light tubes, at the Kunstverein Konstanz. In 2007, he began his Cluster series of works and also made his first appearances in gallery shows and at trade fairs. In 2012, his computer-operated installation of 520 maneki-nekos (paw-waving cats) called The Global Pursuit of Happiness or: The Army of Luck earned him much recognition at the art Karlsruhe. In 2013, he presented his 20×6 meter large interactive installation Wünschelmatrix at the ZKM in Karlsruhe. In 2014, he received the Prix Ars Electonica in Linz and was nominated for the International Light Art Award. Petrovsky lives and works in Constance.
